Harry's Journey

Journey: Ballincollig Park
Distance: 1.89M / 3.04KM
Total Distance: 74.94M / 120.60KM

Today, Harry was due to cycle in Kinsale, however had an osteopath appointment in Bishopstown, so himself and Mam headed off to Ballincollig Park after his appointment and took in a 3KM cycle. Harry is extremely routine driven and part of what we try to do is flex his routine, to try to get him to adapt to a change of situation or plan without getting upset. So today, whilst Harry had a visual of a cycle around Kinsale, he had to adapt to this change of location and did so without issue. It was also important for Harry to willingly take to the bike today and complete his 3KM after yesterday’s challenges on the roads of Crosshaven. Harry loved his cycle in Ballincollig today and finished up with a trip to the playground. Tomorrow, Chloe will accompany Harry, where they will head out to their nana and granddad’s house by Bawnleigh and cycle on the back roads to Cork.

Saturday will be Harry’s last cycle where he will leave the Dock at 11:00am before cycling into Kinsale, arriving at the Blue Haven Hotel at approx. 11:30am. The Fire Service and Gardai have kindly offered to provide Harry an escort, whilst cyclists from the Tri Club have kindly offered their support towards the last day. A large part of this campaign has involved friends and neighbours supporting Harry across a number of different routes and so a number of children will cycle along with Harry from outside the Yacht Club up to the Blue Haven for the last leg of his effort. It would be lovely for the people of Kinsale to come out and support the kids for the last leg of this cycle which promises to be a fun and enjoyable ending to the campaign.

This has been an incredible experience for us as a family and we are extremely thankful to the people of Kinsale, Cork and further afield for their continued goodwill, support and kind generosity. The campaign has touched a lot of people, both near and far and we have received numerous messages of support and congratulations from various people across the world. One such person is former Australian rugby player Michael Lynagh, who has been in touch on a number of occasions across the campaign. Michael has been hugely supportive of Harry and his efforts and kindly sent some congratulatory words to Harry in light of his achievements.
