Harry's Journey

Journey: Belgooly Walkway
Distance: 2.67M / 4.30KM
Total Distance: 64.20M / 103.32KM

Harry smashed his 100KM target today, as he took to the Belgooly walkway for his 24th day of cycling. To say we are proud of him cannot be overstated, he has taken himself out of his comfort zone, tested both himself and his needs whilst embracing every challenge along the way. It was a fitting day for Harry to mark his 100KM, as fundraising for the campaign surpassed €23,000, something we never thought was ever achievable. I keep referring to the word campaign, as this is not just about fundraising, but equally about raising awareness for children on the spectrum and across both, Harry has been front and centre. We couldn’t be more proud of him tonight and want to sincerely thank each and everyone of you for your continued support and generosity towards both Harry and his efforts to date.

For today’s trek, Harry was again joined by Chloe, along with two of their besties, Eirinn and Marijane O’ Regan. Both girls are great pals of the kids, so it was lovely to have them involved and in particular in marking such a significant milestone. The kids were in great form as they casually cycled along the Belgooly walkway – they stopped at the halfway point for a treat to mark the feat, before cycling back to Belgooly. As a reward, they were treated to lunch in Kinsale by their mammies, who supervised today’s trip.

Tomorrow sees Harry back on the bike in and around Kinsale as he takes to the streets for a few laps of the town before a busy bank holiday weekend. On Saturday, Harry will head back to Cork and cycle from Pairc (Ui Rinn) to Pairc (Ui Chaoimh), both homes to Cork GAA. Harry will again be back in Kinsale on Sunday before heading back towards east Cork for his cycle on Monday. Please continue to show your support towards Harry if you happen to meet him on your travels over the long weekend.

As Harry celebrates his achievement today, it again brings us back to the reasons that underpin this campaign and why this is important. The process to have your child assessed for Autism in order to gain access to services is exhaustive and for many, this can take years, something no family should have to endure. We have been extremely fortunate and for Harry, once diagnosed, his journey has been hugely challenging but equally rewarding. The work and intervention provided by Shine, Sonas and the Rainbow Club cannot be overstated and the monies raised through this will make such a difference for so many children. As a family, we are extremely thankful to everyone and ask you to continue to help share the GoFundMe to continue to raise as much support and awareness for both families and children that are on a similar journey to Harry.
