Harry's Journey

Journey: Old Head of Kinsale -> Speckled Door
Distance: 1.94M / 3.13KM
Total Distance: 56.91M / 91.60KM

A tough day on a number of fronts today, not just towards Harry’s cycle but towards a gem of a lady from Kinsale that has suddenly and sadly passed away.

When I posted my first social media post regarding Harry and the fundraising effort a number of weeks ago, Geraldine (Gould) was one of the first people to reach out with some lovely words towards Harry and his needs. Geraldine was a lovely lady who warmed the hearts of so many around the town and who we have had the pleasure of knowing in recent years. She played a huge part in the GAA community and as a family, we are devastated by her sudden passing. Our sincere condolences to husband Paul, son Jack, daughter Georgia and the extended Gould/Moloney families. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

Today’s trek saw Harry head over the bridge and to the Old Head of Kinsale where he started today’s trip on the Wild Atlantic Way. Similar to the mornings weather, Harry was in downbeat form and the continuity of cycling each day is clearly taking it’s toll. After a brief shower, he headed off with mam and Chloe and just about cycled the 3km to the Speckled Door before we called it a day. Harry’s form improved once off the bike as he headed off to the Rainbow Club and some much needed playtime with his friend Charlie.

Tomorrow sees Harry once again head over the bridge but closer to home as he visits his 3rd nana (Mary O’ Regan) and the O’ Regan household by Castlepark, where from there he will cycle to Sandycove. Harry is adored by all the O’ Regan clan and in particular his uncle Connie, so we are delighted to kick off tomorrow’s cycle at their house and finish at Sandycove, home to Harry’s auntie Ciara and uncle Connie. It is lovely to integrate the people and places close to Harry across these trips, so tomorrow will no doubt bring a smile to his face.

Our continued thanks to everybody for your incredible support. Fundraising aside, this campaign has raised huge awareness and an increased understanding of Autism. We sincerely hope that the footprint laid down in places such as Clonakilty is embraced by Kinsale and the wider community, so society can adapt to be more inclusive for both children and people on the Autism spectrum. It is why this is so much more than just a fundraiser and we thank you for your kind messages and continued support.

Rest in peace Geraldine ♥
