Little or nothing to update on today, Harry simply wouldn’t take to the bike. It was planned for him to cycle 3KM from his grandparents’ home around the Ballymartle/Bawnleigh roads, however he simply refused. Mam and Chloe managed today’s cycle whilst Harry sat in the car. Harry is clearly finding this mentally challenging and similar to Monday’s excursion, today was another one of those days. Thankfully he has plenty mileage in the bank from his previous outings and at this point, the hope is he will complete his cycle into Kinsale on Saturday. Tomorrow, Harry will try from his other grandparents’ house in Ballinacurra, however if not in the form, he won’t be pushed. Personally, I am quick to forget the human element behind all of this and the huge effort Harry has put in to date to reach this point.
On Friday, our friends at Fota have invited Harry down to do his 3KM cycle around the Wildlife Park. We really hope he will be excited by this prospect – it is a rare privilege to have been invited down to Fota specifics for a cycle surrounded by the beautiful wildlife and we hope this will give Harry the impetus he needs to drive him over the line on Saturday.
As I mentioned in one of my very first posts, COVID has given Harry an outlet to learn to cycle and whilst Harry undertakes this challenge, COVID has and still is significantly impacting our day-to-day lives, whereby the wearing of masks or face shields indoors become mandatory from next Monday.
To this point, Acme Blinds have reached out and very kindly donated 200 face shields towards the campaign, a proportion of which will go direct to Shine, Sonas and the Rainbow Club, with the remainder available for sale to individuals, families or businesses, with all proceeds going towards the fundraising effort. These are available for sale individually (€5) or in packs of 10 (€35) – a number of packs have already been sold today, so if you are interested, please kindly reach out via GoFundMe, Facebook or email (rohanlon@yahoo.com). Our sincere thanks to Nick & Sue Walsh and the team at Acme Blinds for their kind generosity and support towards Harry and the fundraising effort.
