Journey: Ringcurran – Summercove
Distance: 1.95M / 3.14KM
Total Distance: 61.53M / 99.02KM
Harry’s form was somewhat consistent with today’s weather, as he reluctantly took to the bike once again just before the heavy showers set in. Harry is extremely routine driven and this process is very much about flexing Harry’s routine and testing him against things he typically does not like to do. Today was one of those occasions as for the first time, Harry took to the bike in the wet. Harry is typically hyper-sensitive to any form of rain or water, in particular above his neck or hair, so for him to cycle in a drizzle today was a huge step. Granted, his form wasn’t great, however he adapted, took off his glasses and just about managed his 3KM target.
For today’s trip, Harry & Chloe set off from home where they did a lap of the Ringcurran estate before cycling to Fortview. A visit to our old family home was taken in before Harry cycled to the other side of Fortview, where the kids took a break and met with Rosita Hellstern and the O’Connell clan, who very kindly provided treats for the kids. After putting his helmet and glasses back on, Harry then cycled to Summercove school, where the kids took in a few laps of the school whilst Dad reminisced about his time there in the 80’s! The glasses came back off as the rain came back and for the first time since learning to cycle, both kids trekked down Summercove hill on the bikes before finishing at the Bulman. Today was rewarding on a number of levels, but especially in completing his cycle against both will and weather.
Harry’s has now amassed 99KM on the bike and all going well, will reach the 100KM target tomorrow. For this, he is taking to Belgooly walkway, where he will be accompanied by Eirinn and Marijane O’ Regan. Both girls are great pals of Harry & Chloe, so it will be a lovely moment for him to crack the 100KM in such good company..
