Harry's Journey

Journey: Scilly Walk
Distance: 1.96M / 3.16KM
Total Distance:47.22M / 76.0KM

Today was a better day for Harry. He had a great morning visiting his friends Bodhi and Charlie from Sonas and was in much better form taking to the bike this afternoon. Thankfully for Harry, today’s cycle was nearby down in Scilly walk where Harry could enjoy a relaxing cycle without the worry or anxiety of traffic and noise.

Harry cycled up and down a quiet Scilly walk a number of times and once again was accompanied by Chloe, who has been on every one of Harry’s cycles to date. Chloe has been a great sparring partner for Harry, not just throughout this campaign, but as a younger sister and at only 4 years of age, has no fear cycling the streets of Kinsale and Co. Cork. She brings him on an awful lot and absolutely adores the bones off him, even if that does mean the odd argument on more than one occasion. Harry & Chloe finished up their 3KM today and together enjoyed a snack and drink of water to celebrate bridging the half-way point of the overall journey.

Tomorrow sees Harry return to Carrigaline, where he will cycle through the village en-route to Shine. The Shine Centre for Autism are one the key beneficiaries of this campaign and we owe them a huge amount of debt and gratitude for the support and intervention they provided to Harry as a 3 year old boy. Harry was non-verbal going into Shine and through the introduction of PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), he began to verbalise. The change in Harry after finishing one year of intervention at Shine was huge and as a family, we are hugely indebted to Grace & the staff at the Shine Centre for everything they have done in advancing Harry’s needs. We look forward to seeing them once again tomorrow, along with the people of Carrigaline.
